INCOMING MOBILITY

How to apply for incoming academic mobility?

If their institution of origin has a currently-in-effect agreement with the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the visiting student will benefit from exemption from payment of the matriculation fee and academic rights.

To apply as a visiting student at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, an applicant must be registered as a regular student at an institution of higher education in Colombia or abroad.

Consult agreements

If there is no currently-in-effect agreement with the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the visiting student shall pay the value of the subject areas for which they register. That value will be made known to them when their acceptance is confirmed.

The visiting student may take advantage of academic mobility at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia under any of the following modalities:

  • Taking courses: Academic activity in which they take courses and/or subject areas supplementary to the plan of studies at another institution.
  • Professional practices and internships: Academic activity aimed at contributing towards undergraduate students’ professional, social and community development through the experience and application of knowledge acquired during their professional training.
  • Research internship: Academic activity in which a student carries out studies, analysis, presentations or experiments supplementary to their research practices, at another institution or under the leadership of a researcher at the institution at which they arrive.
  • Medical Rotation: Academic activity in which students in the health sciences area put into practice their knowledge and skills in different areas and specialties of the health sciences.

For the modalities of practice, internships and rotations, the visiting student shall obtain prior approval from the tutor who becomes responsible for supervising their activities at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

Procedure for postulation

1. Choose the campus of the Universidad Nacional at which you wish to participate in an exchange.

 2. Find the academic program (career) in which you wish to anticipate in an exchange.

3. Consult detailed information on the subject areas using the search engine for courses at the campus of interest.

 4. Obtain the following documents and organize them in one single PDF file:

  • Letter of presentation from the university of origin (on their official stationery and/or with their seal)
  • Letter of motivation
  • Official grades transcript
  • Copy of passport (foreign students) or copy of Colombian citizenship card (Colombian students)
  • Certificate of sufficiency in Spanish language (if the student is not a native Spanish speaker)
  • Letter of economic support. If the candidate receives a scholarship, they must annex a certificate mentioning that they are a beneficiary or scholarship student.

5. Complete the online registration form and annex the PDF file with the documents.

Acceptance 

The response time is variable, depending on the faculty that is to evaluate the application.

The letter of acceptance as a visiting student shall be sent by e-mail to the applicant and their university of origin. The original document shall be sent to the postal address of the university of origin.

Upon arrival in Colombia, all foreign visiting students must have an international insurance policy covering medical and hospital expenses, accidents and life insurance.

Colombian visiting students must be affiliated with an EPS (health insurance provider).

Migratory process

Citizens of countries included in this list who are accepted as visiting students for a period of less than 180 days shall apply for a PIP2 Permit for Entry and Permanence, in accordance with the instructions they will receive in their letter of acceptance.

Foreign citizens who are accepted as visiting students for a period greater than 180 days or who come from countries not included in the list shall apply for a TP3 Temporary Visa, in accordance with the instructions they will receive in their letter of acceptance.

Upon arrival in Colombia, all foreign visiting students who remain in the country for more than 90 days shall apply for a Foreigner’s Identification Card.

Application Period:

For the second semester 2016 (running from end of July until end of November) is February 1, until April 30, 2016.

For the first semester 2017 (running from end of January until end of May) is August 1, until September 30, 2016.
